Welcome to PlainsDad

As the title says, Welcome!

I was originally inspired to start writing a blog when I attended a Medical Communications Conference outside Albuquerque in 2009, and I set up this template in January of 2010. As detailed in my companinon blog, PlainsDoc, I just never wrote the first post. In the time between inspiration and setting up the first templates, I decided that some people who would be interested in my personal musings might not care about my political or medical thoughts and vice versa, so I have set these up to be parallel trains of thought.

What will PlainsDad have to say?

I would like to start with thoughts on various people in my life who influence me daily and serve as motivation for me to try to make the world a better place. Additionally, I would like to speak about those no longer with us that have influenced me.

I would like to talk about neat places I have been, fun experiences and great meals. I love to cook, so I may throw in a recipe or three.

I will comment on topics having to do with my brand of practicing Southern Baptist Christianity, leavened with my views on tolerance, post-modernism and the existence of right and wrong.

Mostly, I would like to explore who I am, how I got there and where I am going. Over my 47+ years (that many, already?), I have considered keeping a journal, a diary or writing letters to my kids and have never been successful at even getting started. Drawing on inspiration from blogs by my 21 year old college niece and my 75 year old well-travelled uncle and a few brief entries from my 19 year old daughter, I am determined to finally do this.

I will try to write about twice a week and I will look forward to any comments anyone has - from calling me on what appears to be self-deception, desires for my thoughts on a particular topic, or pointing out how long it has been since my last post.

Thanks for joining me on the trip!
